Photobiomodulation Therapy

I tried out Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT), also known as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) at Lemon Light Lounge three times within a week in March. They are located in downtown New York City. Photobiomodulation is a bed with photos of LED lights (UV-free lights.) This is the first step in their 3 step detox process. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀

⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀

After getting out of this full body machine for the first time, I noticed that my face looked more clear, as if I had been in the sun for 15 minutes but I didn’t have any added color/tan. I also have been getting compliments on my skin the past few days from people in person when I have no makeup on. It seems like the combination of this and the infrared sauna (the 3rd step) have helped. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀

I also felt like my mood and energy levels significantly got better right after this. I definitely have the “winter blues” and am in a better mood/happier during the warmer weather. Laying in the machine for the allotted time, really felt like I was getting some much needed sun in the middle of March and my increased mood stayed with my for that day and the next few days.

Below are some more benefits according to Lemon Light Lounge and dozens of studies. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 🔹Improve tissue repair / speeds wound healing

🔹Reduce pain and inflammation ⠀⠀

🔹Cognition: Cognitive benefits have shown that Near Infrared light can improve and restore

brain function in cases of TBI, CTE, Alzheimer’s and Dementia. ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

🔹Skin benefits: improved wound healing, increased collagen formation and tightening of the elastin layer. Green light seems to be beneficial for dermal wound healing, as well as hyperpigmentation, acne, MRSA and similar surface issues.

🔹 Cellular Benefits: improved circulation, improves mitochondrial function (energy or ATP), increased detoxification of waste and free radicals.

I also included some more information provided by Lemon Light Lounge below.

Chromotherapy is a method of treatment that uses the colors of electromagnetic radiation to cure diseases. It has health, emotional and cosmetic benefits.

Ancient observation chromotherapy is a centuries-old concept. It was practiced in ancient Egypt, Greece, China and by the Mayans. The Egyptians utilized sunlight as well as color for healing. Color has been investigated as medicine since 2000 BC.

Color psychology and medicine were substantially tested by Robert Gerard, Ph.D., of UCLA in the 1950’s. He analyzed the area of light, color and their psychophysiological imprints. He tested the reactions of the entire body with colored light beamed onto the skin of the subject. Gerard’s data showed that all colors affect the human both psychologically and physiologically.

Warm colors: Warm colors showed a consistently pronounced pattern of stimulation. Warm colors helped those with reactive depression or neurasthenia. They increased muscle tone or blood pressure in hypertensive individuals.  Exposure to warm colors increased respiratory movements, frequency of eye blinks, cortical activation and palmar conductance (arousal of the autonomic nervous system).

Cool colors:  Cool colors showed a consistent pattern of relaxation.  Anxious subjects were calmed by these cooler colors, lowering blood pressure, providing relief from tension, alleviating muscle spasms and reducing eye blink frequency. They also proved to be an aid for insomnia.

If you are interested in reading more about the specific light color benefits, check out the image below. In the sauna, you have the choice to choose a color to stick with or you can have the light system rotating automatically through each color during your session.

Reiki for Healing

Reiki is a spiritual, vibrational healing art used to promote balance in the human body with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true, a person’s body and mind are in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes blocked, it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.

A Reiki session is typically 60-90 minutes. Prior to the session, The Reiki Practitioner and client will usually discuss any particular problem or issue they are experiencing and ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session. The last Reiki session I went to was a little over a year ago. Prior to the session, the practitioner mixed cards which I then pulled out from the deck. These cards were supposed to be relevant to my life. The cards I pulled are the ones shown on the photo to the right. We also went over the different chakras of the body and meanings associated with each.

During the session, the client will rest comfortably on a massage table on their back with their shoes removed. The Practitioner may apply a light touch during the session, hold their hands slightly above your body. A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. I had a large sense of emotion during the session and while the practitioners hands were hovering over me, I felt a heavy push of energy from her hands. The practitioner went over each chakra & my throat chakra felt specifically heavy. I also did Reiki a year prior to that a few times with a different practitioner and I felt very relaxed during the session and almost fell asleep.  This Reiki practitioner in particular was supposedly psychic. During the session she was speaking to me about whatever came to her while putting her hands over my body. A lot of it did not make sense at the time, but looking back, some of the things she was saying makes more sense now. I felt very overwhelmed after the session.

Reiki is a tool for stress reduction, relaxation and wellness. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing.

It is interesting, I was watching this video on Reiki and it asks if you have a headache, stomach ache, or pain elsewhere most people’s reaction is to place their hands on the corresponding area.”Reiki amplifies and intensifies the power of touch”.

Our bodies are made up of energy. We exist in a universe of energy. This concept may be hard to understand for some people at first because we aren’t really taught this in school. However, everything in this world is essentially energy. For example, the difference between hot and cold water is energy right?

This photo was taken at Goddess Sanctuary & Spa in Mineola, Long Island. They also have Full & New Moon Meditation classes. If you go to my Instagram, @dshamptonorganics to this photo you can see some informative comments of people commenting about their (positive) experience with reiki.

Squatting or Sitting? The correct posture in the Loo

Did you know that anatomically humans are designed to squat to eliminate? While squatting, the human body is at the ideal angle to straighten the colon for better elimination. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Western style toilets are designed for people to eliminate while sitting down on the toilet. In the seated angle, a kink is caused in the colon that makes it more difficult to go to the bathroom. (See “seated position” photo) This leaves unwanted body waste and toxins left in the colon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀image1Step and Go is designed to mirror the angle and efficiency of natural squatting. It is simply placed under the toilet (as seen in below photo).

image3

Step and Go helps with:

🔹Hemorrhoids- Hemorrhoids are inflamed, swollen anal varicose veins due to pushing excessively to get those hard stools to pass. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

🔹Colon disease- Eliminating frequently and completely helps maintain good colon health. Many studies show that fecal buildup in the colon can cause many diseases including colon cancer.

🔹Constipation- Constipation happens when there are hard, dry stools present. This can be caused by not having enough fiber or water in our diets along with improper toilet posture, not allowing us to eliminate completely.

🔹Appendicitis & Colitis

In an uncontrolled, unpublished study by the Mayo Clinic by Adil Bharucha M.B.B.S. M.D. it was suggested that a footstool improved bowel symptoms in 98% of 153 constipated participants. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

I guess countries which have solely a hole in the floor instead of a toilet have a method to their madness.

Sound Healing Meditation

I had an amazing experience at Sound Healing Meditation class by Rick Batyr Music last weekend at Point Lookout Yoga Club on Long Island, New York. This class used gongs, drums and Tibetan singing bowls, which date back to being used in ancient history.  These instruments are ‘stuck and sung’ in specific rythmic patterns to create vibrational sound harmonics. These vibrations from the sound frequency impact the sympathetic nervous system. During the class, your brain waves synchronize to the vibrations of the instruments being played. The harmonic vibrations engage the relaxation reflex and slow down the respiratory, brain and heart rate and create a deep sense of well being.

I was extremely relaxed during the class. I have been to meditation classes before where my mind has difficulty not wandering and staying focused on the meditation. During this class, my mind was clear of distracting thoughts. I felt relaxed and at ease. I really like the bong sounds. It was hard to have a wandering mind when something that loud and vibrational was being played. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀

There was also a Reiki practitioner in the class who did Reiki during the meditation. Reiki, meaning “universal life energy” in Japanese works with the goal of improving the flow of life energy in a person. Reiki practitioners are trained to detect and alleviate problems of energy flow on the physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

Below is an interview with Rick Batyr. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀FullSizeRender(13)
D’s Hampton Organics: Could you tell me more about what you offer as a service?

Rick Batyr: I am a musician/sound healer/teacher, with a background in studying shamanism, reiki, meditation and the science of sound.
I perform live group sound meditations using gongs, singing bowls, percussion, synthesizer and field recording’s from nature all combined with the above practices. The sonic landscapes I create has helped many to detach from the ego self which allows you to gently slip into a deeply relaxing meditative state. The intention behind all my work is to honor each individuals unique vibration, guiding them into a state of self awareness, joy and compassion.

As a musician I create fully produced meditation music combining traditional sound healing modalities with artful sonic exploration. Each song infuses many forms of sounds, blurring the lines of genre and taking the listener on a healing journey.

D’s Hampton Organics: How did you originally get involved in what you do?

Rick Batyr: Using music as a therapeutic tool began early on for me (A drummer in my teenage years). I would always turn to music in times of stress, playing music and being immersed in sounds would simply take me away into a sort of trance like state.
When I was about 16 yrs old I began meditation and spiritual practices. From that turning point the next 10 years focused on self discovery, growing spiritually and delving into the science and spiritual use of sound. In the studio I was creating bin-aural beats, studying music from around the world and learning how the brain responds to sound.
After graduating in 2000 with a degree in audio engineering I began working full time in Manhattan for major recording studios and artists and would often attend group meditations around there. The deeper I went down the spiritual path, the further I started to step away from the commercial side of the music industry.
When my wife Mariko began to train me in Usui Reiki it all seemed to collide together. Reiki broadened my awareness of energy and brought another layer to the energetic use of music that I was discovering. With the years of studying the science of sound, along with these new spiritual tools, I was set on a path to share the healing power of music with the world.

D’s Hampton Organics: Why do you like meditation/sound meditation and what differentiates the two? Why is sound special?

Rick Batyr: I love meditation. In its simplest form its great for heightening your awareness, acting mindfully and balancing stress/emotions. On the deeper level It allows you to step beyond the ego , heal and explore the more complex levels of the inner self, enhance creativity, and connect to divine source.
When you add carefully crafted music to meditation, it greatly enhances the experience on multi-dimensional levels. The Meditative use of sound dates back thousands of years, in many forms throughout the world. Music and rhythm is ingrained into our being from the the earliest days of our existence (16 weeks in utero) . Listening to the beats of our mothers heart, hearing the swish of air into the lungs, etc. We are designed to respond and resonate to sound. We are all divine instruments that constantly need to be “tuned up” as we change and evolve. Using music helps to quiet the mind during meditation, lowers blood pressure, improves sleep, enhances your listening and focusing abilities. Sound can help to reveal our inner emotional, energetic, physical/mental patterns and blocks.

D’s Hampton Organics: Could you further explain Reiki and how you use it in your classes.

Rick Batyr: My wife Mariko Zervos Batyr (www.zersai.com) has been practicing and teaching Reiki for many years, With a deep connection to her Japanese heritage, she has this incredible ability to bring fourth Usui Reiki in the most respectful, egoless and pure manner I have seen. Learning Reiki from Mariko truly opened me up to a new layer of understanding energy as a healing modality. Since music is also energy, I began using reiki energy while conducting sound healing sessions, as well as during the writing process of my recorded albums. Before I begin a sound healing session or compose music I give all my instruments reiki, with the intention that as I play that energy is carried out into the listener along with the sound waves of the music.

D’s Hampton Organics: Could you further explain chakras and how you use them in your classes?

Rick Batyr: The chakra system is often misunderstood in the west. Here, we boil an ancient yogic practice down to a single set of 7 chakras that govern the body, when traditionally the original practice used many many more sets of chakras. Since the chakras mainly deal with our energetic non physical bodies the locations and notes that pertain to the chakra system can fluctuate based on the individual. With that said I do not use one specific note or frequency for every single person as many chakra systems in the west teach. If you believe, as I do, that every human being is beautifully unique in his/her grand design, then applying the same prescription to everyone just simply does not work. I use mostly metal singing bowls because they provide complex overtones and harmonics that crystal bowls do not. It is those overtones and harmonics when struck in certain patterns or scales begin to create a wall of sound that encompasses many notes and vibrations that help to cover not just the main western whole tones associated with the chakra system but many of the sounds in between those notes. As the conductor of these deep sonic journeys I feel its my responsibility to cover as many modalities and sounds as possible regardless of personal beliefs, so that I can assist as many as possible with this work.

Nut Milk: How to make your own & recipe

image3

Why make your own nutmilk?

  1. Many store bought nut milk brands contain additives to prolong their shelf life and to help keep a consistent texture like carrageenan which is destructive to the digestive system and causes inflammation in your body. Carrageenan is hiding in many store bought nut milks, dairy-free ice creams and dairy products. For example, So Delicious is a popular brand in the dairy free world which has carrageenan in their nut milks and DF ice cream products.  Its safer to make your own nut milk (and nice cream-link to nice cream recipes) to avoid consuming additives.
  2. Making your own nut milk has a creamier texture and tastes better.
  3. Just like juicing, there is leftover pulp after milking your own nuts. Another reason to make your own Nutmilk is that there are multiple uses for the leftover nut pulp, which I get into below.image1(1)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raw unsalted organic hazelnuts
  • 6 cups filtered of purified water
  • 2 tbsp local raw honey or manuka honey
  • 1 vanilla bean or 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

1) Soak raw hazelnuts and vanilla bean (if using bean and not extract) in filtered water for 8 hours.

2) Discard soaking water. Rinse the hazelnuts and the vanilla bean.

3) Place soaked hazelnuts, honey, vanilla bean and 6 cups of water in a blender. Cover and blend on high for 1-2 minutes. It will be milky and have a bit of foam on the top.

image2

4) Strain milk through a nut bag. I use Ellie‘s Best. They are good quality and BPA free. If you order from them, for 10% off, use Coupon Code: Deanna10 at checkout. They also have a free nut milk recipes E-book on their site.

5) Add raw cacao powder, cinnamon, banana to the Nutmilk and blend together. Note: I have seen people add the cacao/cinnamon before using the Nutmilk as well (in step 3).

  • I do not recommend using the cheesecloth, strainer or any other method. These methods are messy and require multiple passes to strain out the bits. Also, it is not as creamy as when I use a good nut milk bag.

What to do with leftover pulp?

  • Add it to smoothies or your morning oatmeal
  • Add it to dips, homemade granola, to the batter of your cookies or muffin
  • Make crackers
  • Dehydrate it and blend it to make almond meal
  • Add it to DIY cosmetics, Ex: body scrubs, face masks. See my DIY  Hazelnut Body Polish
  • Compost it.

Biomagnetism-Holistic Treatment

Biomagnetic Therapy is using high-strength magnets to balance and alkalinize the body systems. This therapy was developed in 1988 by Mexican doctor Isaac Goiz. He clinically defined the location of biomagnetic pairs where pH disturbances occur in the body as a result of infection from common pathogens including viruses, bacteria, fungus, parasites and other toxins.

A large number of illnesses are associated with alterations in the PH level in organs and tissues and with the presence of viruses, bacteria, fungi, toxins and parasites. By contrast, a balanced PH level contribute to restore and maintain optimal health.

What is PH?

According to Phountain Health, A PH number measures for 0-14. 0 is acid, 14 is alkaline and 7 is neutral.

In order to have good healimage16th, one should have the right acid/alkaline balance in the body. Humans should strive to have a PH level between 7-8. The pH level of internal fluids affects the cells in the human’s body. Acidic imbalances in the internal environment can lead to health problems. An acidic body is common in today’s society due to stress, poor diet, not exercising enough and in some cases, over exercising. When our body becomes acidic, essential minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium may be taken from our vital organs and bones to combat or buffer the acid. When the pH in ones body gets out of balance or too acidic, we may experience l ow energy, fatigue, poor digestion, excess weight, aches and pains, or more serious health conditions.
The process of re-balancing the acid/alkaline in your body begins with proper diet and nutrition. This includes eating alkaline foods such as vegetables and low sugar fruits, hydration from drinking plenty of alkaline water, and proper supplementation.

Biomagnetism is also capable of reestablishing the acidic-alkaline balance in the organism and restore health. Biomagnetism targets the fix the cause of the problem and not just one’s symptoms, as drugs usually attempt to fix one’s symptoms. The problem trying to fix only a symptom is, one symptom might be fixed by a drug for a select period of time and since the underlying problem has not been resolved, another symptom due to the same elemental problem can pop up in one’s body.

BioMagnetism uses pairs of magnets of opposite polarity to depolarize areas in the body that are unbalanced due to pathogens or other factors that resonate energetically, in consequence causing harm.

Biomagnetism is a preventative therapy as well as a healing therapy. It is able to detect, diagnose and correct an abnormal condition before its symptomatic occurrence.

How does Biomagnetism work?

Living organisms maintain their systems, organs and tissues in an amazing energetic equilibrium.  Cells need the appropriate environment to be able to live and correctly carry out their many functions.

The ionic balance of + and – charges present in the cells and their environment plays an imperative role in ensuring a well functioning cellular environment. Pathogenic phenomenons occur when there are distortions in the balance of the PH level.

What to expect during the session?

During a session of the Biomagnetic Pair, the practitioner places pairs of magnets of opposite charges (+ and -) on specific areas of the patient’s body which is determined by the practitioner through a trained process. The objective of the specific placement of the magnets is to balance the patients pH level.

The patient will then lay still and relax after the magnets have been placed on their body. The session will take about 1 hour. During the session, I felt calm and relaxed.

How many sessions are needed?

According to Biomagnetism.net, the number of sessions necessary to achieve full healing will depend on many factors like the kind of illness, how chronic it is and the patient’s response. Everyone’s body is unique. Differentiating results could be due to age, build, metabolism, lifestyle, nutritional state, mental state, toxin burden, and immune system. Additionally, how long one has been ill and the damage that has occurred in the body and previously administered medications will also vary the results of biomagnetism.

Sometimes the patient will start to notice positive changes in their health after one session. On average, with a sequence of three or four sessions, one per week, one should see a great improvement in the majority of cases. For chronic cases, four, five or more sessions may be the necessary protocol.

My personal experience

I have received biomagnetic therapy five times. The first time I received it, I had a very intense acupuncture a few days prior to the biomagnetism session. Two days after the biomagnetic therapy treatment, I became very sick with the flu. It was the sickest I ever was with the flu. I am not sure if this was some type of herx reaction (herxheimer reaction) due to the biomagnetic therapy combined with the acupuncture or if it was just a coincidence since it was January and flu season. I do not recommend getting both of these treatments so close together since both are supposed to balance the energy in your body, moving things around at too dramatic of a rate. That being said , fever is actaully good for us since it is the bodies natural way of killing of harmful substances in the body. In western culture it is popular for people to try and hop on antibiotics to get better quickly. However, it is smart to ride out the fever so your body can kill of bacteria and other harmful pathogens. In Europe “Hyperthermia” is a popular treatment which is a self-induced fever popular amongst Lyme and Cancer patients.

Apitherapy: Bee Venom Therapy

Apitherapy  or Bee venom therapy (derived from the Latin word apis, meaning bee) is the medicinal use of products made by honeybees. Bee Venom Therapy  has magnificent healing properties and is effective for the treatment of multiple chronic and autoimmune conditions.

Homeopathic honeybee venom therapy is a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reducing agent. Therapies using the honeybee have existed for thousands of years. The ancient rock art of early hunter-gatherers portrays the honeybee as a common source of natural medicine. Bee Venom Therapy was practiced in ancient Egypt, Greece, and China, three Great Civilizations known for their well advanced medical systems. Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician known as the “Father of Medicine”, identified the healing properties of bee venom for treating arthritis and other joint problems. Today, there is scientific evidence developing that suggests that various bee products promote healing by improving circulation, decreasing inflammation, and stimulating a healthy immune response, according to the American Apitherapy Society.

As stated by Holistic MD, it is particularly helpful for patients with arthritis, fibromyalgia, neuralgias, lyme disease, Bell’s palsy, carpal tunnel syndrome, herpes zoster, osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis and many other conditions.

There are three ways to get Bee Venom Therapy:

  1. You can go to a practitioner and have them inject bee venom stings using a siring.I recommend starting of this way. This way, the practitioner who is injecting you, for example, can inject an equivalent to one honey bee venom sting into 10 different shots on your body. That way, if you are very sensitive to the sting, you will not blow up a grand amount in one spot on your body. The practitioner can also test before doing thing with a small amount how reactive you are to the honey bee venom. As you continue to get treatments, your tolerance to the bee venom stings will get better, allowing your body to receive more venom.
  2. You can also get live honey bee venom stings from a practitioner. This way supposedly has more benefits coming from a live bee. After building up a tolerance, you can start getting live honey bee venom stings.
  3. The last way to do this, is ordering bees and stinging yourself. There is a community of people on facebook, most who are chronically ill who use this method. The group is called Pioneers: Healing Lyme with Bee Venom Therapy. Here, they have a specific Bee Venom Therapy Protocol to follow.

Reactions

Most reactions are mild.  Most people experience redness, mild swelling, heat and itching in the area of the injections, which is a conventional part of the treatment process. This can last from a few minutes to 2-5 days and go away by themselves.  More serious reactions include flu-like symptoms lasting up to several days. This herx reaction is also routine as your body is going through a fighting/healing response. It is best to do nothing, to recognize the reaction and allow the body go through the healing process.

The composition of Bee Venom according to Biocure:

Melitin: Powerful Anti-Viral , Anti-bacterial & Anti-inflammatory , Stimulates ACTH secretion in the Pituitary Gland , Destabilizes all the membrane structures at the level of the phospholipids – which produces Strong anti-inflammatory effects.
Long-lasting, short-acting histaminic effects: Increased capillary permeability, edema (swelling), temperature elevation, itching, pain; increased vitality and sense of well being; forces bee venom to attach to negatively charged cell wall; anti-oxidant action.
Apamin: Stimulates central and peripheral nervous system. Stimulates secretion of serotonin and dopamine; anti-arrhythmic. So it Increases central and peripheral pain threshold, decreases pain, increases sense of well-being.
Adolapin: Inhibits enzymes in metabolic cascades of arachidonic acid and cyclo-oxygenase. so it has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic / pain releife action.
Mast Cell Degranulating Peptide (MCDP or peptide 401): Has Anti-inflammatory actions (approximately 100 times stronger than hydrocortisone) So it Reduces inflammation and pain through local action on tissue inflammation. Activates adrenal and sympathetic system.
Hyluronidase, Secapin, Tertiapin, Procamine: Anti-inflammatory , Pain relief by inhibition of “substance P” ( It function as a neurotransmittor and neuro-modulator , Substance P is released from the terminals of specific sensory nerves, it is found in the brain and spinal cord, and is associated with inflammatory processes and pain).
Compound X , Phospholipase A2 , Histamine: Involved in the inflammatory response of Venom, with the softening of tissue and the Facilitation of flow of the other substances deeper into the tissues.
Measurable amounts of the neurotransmittors: Dopamine , Norepinephrine and Seratonine.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points. It is known to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force. This energy, known as “qi or chi” should run smoothly through pathways, or meridians in your body and out of it. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance. These points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of two thousand years. Recently, electromagnetic research has confirmed their aimage2ccuracy.

In comparison, most Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. Practitioners think this stimulation can boosts your body’s natural painkillers and increases blood flow, explained by the May0 Clinic.

The medical field in the U.S. does recognize and approve acupuncture. Depending on your insurance, some companies will pay for acupuncture treatment. Call your insurance and ask. You can also try sending them a form and receipt for your treatment. The World Health Organization (WHO) currently recognizes more than 40 medical problems that can be taken care of with acupuncture. The below conditions are are suitable for acupuncture treatment according to the WHO as well as vast amounts of research in China, explained by the Cleveland Clinic.

  1. Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders. Toothaches, pain after tooth extraction, gingivitis, acute or chronic earaches, acute sinusitis, acute rhinitis, hay fever, runny nose and acute tonsillitis.
  2. Respiratory Disorders
  3. Gastrointestinal Disorders
  4. Eye Disorders
  5. Neurological and Muscular Disorders
  6. Gynecological Disorders
  7. Stress Disorders
  8. Immune System Disorders
  9. Sports Injuries
  10. Pain

Personally, whenever I have had a minor new injury and have gotten acupuncture, the injury is completely better with 1-4 treatments. It has helped me with muscle pain and tightness. For my muscle tension and tightness, the effectiveness is similar to an intense deep tissue massage. I like the “dry needling” technique for muscle pain and tightness relief, which is more popular in western acupuncture culture. This is also known as intramuscular stimulation, Myofascial Acupuncture, Tendinomuscular Acupuncture, or some version of Sports Acupuncture.

Dry Skin Brushing-Lymphatic Drainage

Why you should Dry Skin Brush

Dry skin brushing is a process of dry brushing skin with a natural brush to stimulate lymphatic flow, improve circulation, and exfoliate skin. The largest organ in the body is the skin. It is responsible for 1/4 of the bodies detoxification

. It is important to eliminate through the skin.

The lymphatic system consists of various sizes of lymph vessels and nodes. The system is part of the immune system, as the lymphatic fluid carries cells that fight off viruses, bacteria, and other harmful substances. The lymphatic system does not have a pump of its own, like the blood vessels which have the heart. It depends on supplementary help to move the fluid around the body. Exercise is a great way to assist the lymphatic system as well as dry skin brushing.

The lymphatic system mobilizes waste and fluid back into the body’s drainage system so that the waste and fluid can be more effectively eliminated. As well, it increases immunity, promotes healing, and balances fluid metabolism in body.

This massage is especially useful for those individuals that feel that their system is sluggish, or those who seem to get regular colds and flu. It is also recommended for people who lead sedentary lifestyles, or those who want to reduce puffiness or swelling.

Manual stimulation directly applied to our epidermis to maintain overall health and wellness has been practiced by many since ancient times. From the Ayurvedic practices of India (which are still active today) to the Greek athletes using skin scrapers for circulation to various Native American tribes who used the sand from riverbeds for both strengthening the skin as well as beautification. These ancient societies were aware that the pores of the skin that need our focus as well as the lymph glands, just beneath o

How to Skin Brush

1. Purchase a natural (not synthetic) bristle brush with a long handle so can reach all areas of your body.

2. Stand in a bathtub or tiled surface to catch any dead skin with no clothes on.

3. Begin brushing by starting at your feet and moving in long sweeping motions toward your heart.

4. Brush several times in each area, overlapping as you go.

5. Take care as you brush over more sensitive areas, like breasts. Your skin will become less sensitive the more you dry brush.

6. It is best to dry skin brush before exercise or before showering.

7. After getting out of the shower, pat dry skin and apply a oil (ex: coconut oil).

8. Dry skin brush everyday for best results. Clean your brush with soap and water once a week. Leave to dry in a clean, sunny spot to avoid any mildew accumulation on your brush.
